Welcome to Needingworth Tennis ClubThe first major event was the Annual General Meeting - 8pm March 27th in the Pavilion. Follow the link for the main points of the meeting. The Junior Tournament was the second major event and details of this can be seen by following the link. A record breaking number of juniors turned up to play in this tournament so thank you all for turning up and sorry if you did not play as many games as you would have liked. Things will be better next year with 3 courts. The new tennis courts are nearing completion as those of you who have been up the Village Hall will have seen. Colin Pearce has done a wonderful job monitoring the progress of the courts and ensuring everything has been done to A+ standard. Many thanks Colin for your time and help. The courts will be opened on 8th September and we have planned an action packed weekend so that any tennis playing members of the village can try them. The day starts off at 9.30am, with 3 free, 1 hour LTA coaching sessions for juniors, run by Christine Sprowell. This finishes at 12.30pm. Details of the timings will be available on posters around the village nearer the time and from Jane Carter. We hope all juniors in the village will take advantage of this coaching, no matter what standard of tennis they play. At 1pm there will be the opening ceremony attended by various dignitaries, including a representative from Sport England, the LTA and our local MP. The name of the Junior Club Member of the Year will be announced at this ceremony and that person will be presented with a trophy. Will it be you? Come along and see. At 2pm there will be a Parent/Child tournament so juniors - grab a parent, stick a spare racquet in their hands and drag them along to play. This will be divided into a junior school section and an under15 secondary school section. Anyone wishing to enter can obtain an entry form from Jane Carter or can contact Leona Burrows at 24a High Street. The last date for entries is the evening of Friday 7th September. Just turning up on the day can cause chaos because of all the extra games to be played. The tournament will finish with a barbeque around 5pm. The Senior tournament will be held on Sunday 9th September. Please arrive at 9.30am and be ready to start at 10am. Partners will be drawn out of the hat so there is no excuse for not turning up to play. Junior members who are over 15 are also welcome and those who knew they were too strong for the junior tournament (they know who they are and if they don't, come and ask) are very welcome to join us . There will be an entry fee of £2.00 which will enable you to play in the Mixed Doubles, Singles and Doubles events. Trophies will be awarded in all events. Non-members are welcome. Bacon butties will be available at 10am to set you on your way and we will keep the barbeque going all day, so bring the whole family and forget about cooking Sunday lunch! Let's get the courts off with a bang and beat the junior tournament record entry! Below are links to other pages on the site and there is also a search form so you can readily find the information you require. Use them and see what ideas our committee members have for this season and what events we are holding this year. We need lots of support from everyone to enable us to get the new courts up and running. Any ideas for, or comments about this site will be received in the vein they are sent!
